Charities, by their very nature, give out more money and support than they receive, and rely on the goodness (that is to say, charity) of the general public to help them meet the financial needs of their organization, such as paying staff and renting office space. The best way people can help their chosen charity is by either donating or fundraising, so below are some great fundraising ideas to try.
There are two kinds of personal fundraising. The first is performing some sort of extraordinary (or just out of the ordinary for the individual concerned) and asking for people to sponsor the effort being put in. For example, people will do things massively out of their comfort zone such as running a marathon, doing a bungee jump or sitting in a bath tub full of spiders. These fundraising ideas play on people’s desire to see something amazing, or funny, or both. It does require a lot of legwork, as each sponsor needs to be contacted individually and the money collected from each person after the event. However, bulk letters to people at school or work often result in small amounts of cash that soon build up to a great total.
The second kind of fundraising ideas are the big social event, such as organizing a prom, summer fair or dinner party. By charging for a ticket, and ensuring the profits from the event go towards the chosen charity, lots of money can be made in a very short space of time. These do take a lot more effort to organize than say running a road race, but they also allow strangers to take part, which increases the volume of potential sponsors. Also, as the money comes in from ticket sales (and whatever else is there on the day), there’s less hassle about trying to collect in the money at the end of the event.
